Syrah Jay has always been interested in creative arts and crafts since a young age so it was inevitable that she would end up forging a career as independent maker. She graduated in printed textiles from DJCAD from there she devoted her time to expanding her skills through volunteering with creative arts organisations within Perth, Dundee and Angus. In 2007 she created Syrah Jay and began designing and selling her own work, she originally starting selling textile based jewellery and accessories but she soon expanded into other alternative materials such as cork, wood, concrete and jesmonite. She loves being able to create something extraordinary out of something ordinary.
In addition to designing she also has over ten years of teaching experience working within schools, communities groups and arts organisations such V&A Dundee delivering a variety of craft and design skilled workshops.
