Alice Newman is an artist and illustrator based in Edinburgh. Working with mixed media, primarily collage, she is inspired by the unique landscapes of Scotland - from the pristine beaches of the Outer Hebrides, to the busy streets of Edinburgh. She records these places with a childlike nostalgia, a keen eye for details and a love of colour, which combine to create a strong sense of place in which customers delight in pointing out local landmarks, and businesses which they frequent. Her customised landscapes, where customers can have an illustrated version of themselves added into the artwork, are always popular.
Alice's starting point is always observational drawing and exploring, before returning to her studio to construct her images out of painted collage papers, adding drawing and painting to capture small details. Her work is done entirely by hand, and she regularly sells and exhibits originals, only working digitally to format her artworks for products, which are available as a range of greetings cards, prints, homewares and decorations.
