The Birch Tree Studio
I enjoy making pottery in collections, giving each piece of functional pottery a place in a story. Being from Aberfeldy and living in the Scottish Highlands I would like my collection to take someone on a walk through the woodlands and hills that I walk.
I use map ideas, landscape colours, textures and ceramic techniques to try and achieve this. I try and make something special from an everyday object, I enclose in each piece where in the story it is from so someone can be transported to a woodland or a hillside in an instant.
I originally trained as a textile designer. I enjoy surface decoration and the repetitiveness of repeating units that pottery brings. All my work is hand thrown or slab work, it is also made from robust stoneware and is dishwasher safe.
