Junction arts by Elaine Thomson

Graduating with a degree in fine art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2003, Elaine continued to practice as a printmaker until 2009 where her focus shifted to running her own art gallery, Junction arts in Aberdeen. There she supported contemporary UK based artists and makers for 11 years.

In 2019 she made the huge decision to return to focusing on her own creativity, closing the premises but keeping the business name. She now works from her home studio based in the North-East of Scotland.

Elaine’s passion is drawing and printmaking. Making simple linear drawings from life or using photographs, she hopes to capture the essence of an everyday object or landscape. From there the images are transformed into print, typically screen prints and more recently risograph prints. Working in an illustrative style and experimenting with bold colour she often adds hand embellishments to the final image. Elaine also frames all her own work, meaning from page to wall every element is considered from beginning to end.

Typically her print work is no larger than A3 in size and recently Elaine added a range of hand printed greeting cards, hinting towards more product lines possibly being added in the future.
