Henry Philip

Henry is an artist and illustrator based in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland, where he spends his days drawing seaside characters, everyday mishaps and the small absurdities of life.
He has been filling pages with maps, tiny figures and unfolding scenes since childhood — usually involving someone slipping on a banana skin or getting themselves into a mild pickle. Not much has changed. Today, his work still celebrates ordinary people going about their business, often with a gentle dose of humour and a knowing wink.
Inspired by the British seaside and the rich tradition of great British cartoonists, Henry creates detailed pencil-and-ink illustrations that reward a closer look. His influences include William Heath Robinson, Quentin Blake, Raymond Briggs, Tim Cockburn and Janet Ahlberg — artists who found magic (and mischief) in the everyday.
Working primarily in pencil and ink, combined with digital techniques, Henry prints all of his work in-house on carefully chosen fine papers. His illustrations have found homes in galleries, homes and, quite proudly, on a fair few loo walls.
He is available for prints, commissions and collaborations — and is always delighted to hear from fellow observers of life’s little quirks.
