The original 'Hause & Havers' Etsy shop was created a couple of weeks before Valentine’s Day 2021, and that was that. (NB. You’d be right to perhaps think it was because we were full of romance and declaring our love for each other every two seconds. Sadly not.) All our cards, prints, mugs and totes are designed in Edinburgh by Katie & Nick - with some help from the smalls who stick the stickers on.

Living in Scotland is wonderful, but what really makes the experience stand out is the language. Nick has grown to love the Scottish language, whilst Katie grew up in Dundee so is well versed in all the local dialect. Scots have a way of making the most banale words sound exciting, and rude. In what other language can you add an ‘ed onto any word and it means drunk (see jiggered, blootered, hammered, smashed, bladdered, steamboated…the list goes on).

Why 'Hause & Havers'? Hause is an old lost Scots word for hugs. And Havers means nonsense. Hugs and nonsense. Hause & Havers. They just go together.

So here we are. Celebrating the wonderful words of Katie's childhood growing up in North East Scotland, savouring the Scots language and hopefully making people smile in the process.
