Flow Glass
Fiona Cooper is the founder and owner of Flow Glass, a studio specialising in fused glass located just outside Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. The studio's designs draw inspiration from Orkney’s distinctive natural landscapes, often featuring motifs that reflect the local sea and sandy shores.
Flow Glass aim to produce locally hand made products inspired by their surroundings. Pieces are created using float glass and various techniques such as enamels, bubble effects and coloured frit to enhance the design. Pieces are fired in a kiln to produce fused (Kiln Formed) Glass.
Fiona has developed several product ranges incorporating sand from Scapa Beach, such as the “Orkney,” “Sea & Sand,” and “Ocean” collections. The vivid colours of Orkney’s landscape, alongside the varied blues and greens of the sea and sky, are central features in their pieces. The “Hoy” series captures the silhouette of Hoy at dusk, while the “Ring of Brodgar” range portrays the iconic Neolithic henge set amidst summer heather, with the loch, hills, and expansive sky as backdrop.
Additional ranges showcase local flora—such as cow parsley, daisies, and thistles—found across Orkney during the summer months, and are available as hangings, coasters, dishes, frames, and curved pieces.
